28th April 2018 11:00am Commonwealth Airmen Memorial Dedication
Old St Peter's Church, Stockbridge, Hampshire
2018 marks the centenary of the end of the First World War. This plaque was commissioned from money raised by the Stockbridge Scout Group, specifically to honour the memory of the Commonwealth airmen that lost their lives while training to fly overthe Stockbridge and Chattis Hill sky.
It is now mounted on the side of old St Peters Church, Stockbridge.
There was a public service to dedicate the plaque to the airmen. The Right Reverend Jonathan Frost, the Bishop of Southampton, kindly agreed to lead the service of dedication on Saturday the 28th April 2018 at 11:00am.
The ceremony was attended by officers from the Royal Air force, the Royal Australian Air force, the Canadian Air Force and the South African Defence Force. Other military representatives and family members of some of the airmen also were in attendance. The Scout Group was on parade, together with the Royal British Legion standard.
Following the service, wreaths were laid at some of the graves in the cemetery and the Scouts gave a short presentation in Old St Peters.
